Träumerei
The dreams were not confined to her indeed, but went from one brain to another…
– Virginia Woolf, The Voyage Out
your sleep sea sloshes at the edge of mine
we two souls roiling side by side dream-tides
of yours dissolving mine we each our days’
dark substances combine as when with spring’s
first crack the glacier slacks and melting slides
its sediment down-mount to mingle silt
amidst the saline deep so too in this
death’s brother’s brackish kingdom do we churn
oneiric gleams the liquid moonbeams run
from peaks where reason reigned and formless find
some common tongue in shadow-cobwebbed caul
of night where being’s none and two are one
forgetting when we wake though we embrace
our bodies are our own I wake alone
