Why we publish
We founded Merion West in 2016 as an alternative to the media echo chamber. Our contributors span a broad range of political views and life experiences, from distinguished professors to incarcerated writers. Our interviews reflect the same breadth, with guests ranging from senators and a former vice president to philosophers and entrepreneurs.
Commitment to free expression
Although we value tradition, we believe the ideas behind the status quo should be open to question. This is why we continue to publish opinions that are unpopular or challenge conventional wisdom, despite pressure to avoid controversial subjects. That commitment has come at a cost: in spring 2020, after we published a physician’s argument against severe lockdown measures, traffic from Google fell sharply.
How membership funds are used
We take no pay for running the magazine. Every dollar we receive goes back into Merion West.
